Import from Blogger to WordPress 2.2

Import from blogger to WordPress shouldn’t be difficult at all with WordPress latest version. I read a lot of comments that before the release of WordPress 2.2, there are extra steps to do so you can be able to import everything.

2 days ago I finally decided to import my scrap blog from blogger to its new home in WordPress. I believe the transfer will take minutes only and everything will be imported to my new WordPress blog. After I installed the new version of WordPress I followed the procedure for the import but unfortunately this problem occurred several times:

Word Press2.2.2 Import 03
I keep on clearing the information then start all over again but same thing happened.

I checked the WordPress support forum and found some bloggers have the same glitch with what I encountered. So I didn’t import just yet. Instead, I searched on the net and read some archives …

Then yesterday you know I was able to transfer everything… :D … Yes it’s easy but with an extra step and from my reading this is also the step they do prior to WordPress2.2.

So just in case you have the same problem with me, here’s the steps I did… (Take Note: you must be using New Blogger and a Google Account on Blogger. If you are still using Old Blogger, the importer on WordPress 2.2. will not work.)

(1) Create first a blog on wordpress.com. Well, it’s free and you can delete it afterwards, right?

(2) Import your blog to this free wordpress blog… I made a screenshot for you (you can click the image for larger view):

2.1. Go to Manage -> Import and you’ll see this screen:
Word Press2.2.2 Import 00
Select Blogger.

2.2. Click on Authorize then you’ll be directed to enter you google email and password
Word Press2.2.2 Import 01

2.3. After you have typed your username and password, the next screen would be like this where you’re going to grant access…
Word Press2.2.2 Import 02

2.4. Next, it will go back to wordpress screen and you should be able to see your blog. If you have many blogs, it will look like this. And at the right portion you’ll find the magic button.. :)
Word Press2.2.2 Import 04
Click “import” button to the blog you want to transfer to wordpress.

2.5. You’ll see your screen like this when import is ongoing…
Word Press2.2.2 Import 05

2.6. After all the posts/comments transferred, you’ll set the author and you’re done! ;)
Word Press2.2.2 Import 06

(3) At this point, you’re blogger blog has been transferred to your free wordpress blog. The next step is to Export. Navigate to Manage > Export > Dowload Export File

(4) After you have download the .xml file to your pc go to your new WordPress blog and Import. Instead of choosing “blogger” on step 2.1 above, you’ll select WordPress and locate the .xml file from your pc and FINISHED! The import from blogger to your new blog in WordPress is done!…

:D Whew! It’s a long step, hehe… but everything will be imported. Ops, don’t forget to delete the blog you have created on wordpress.com unless you want to retain that, ;)

I hope this helps. Let me know if you need some assistance along the way…. ;)

You should also delete your original posts from your Blogger blog, it’s not good for search engine optimization, it will be flagged as duplicate content. Just retain the message that you moved.
