… musings of a Stay-At-Home Mom

January rounded-up

As I said on my previous post, I started doing monthly round-ups last year 2007 but I only do it for few months so I’m starting on again this year and hopefully do the succeeding months of 2008. I got this round-up tool from Scrapbook Lady Blog (aka Katie the Scrapbook Lady) and she’s doing it for straight 24 months already and never miss any month yet… WOW! I hope I could do that too. :) For me, this is such a nice way to recall what had happened the previous months/years.

Ok, so here what our January look like:

What books and/or magazines did I read this month?
I have this mag, which I got free last year and the one I read again this month as I want to try variations of decorating a cupcake.. I just love baking! ;)

What movies and/or tv shows did I watch this month?
This month we watched the Season 3 continuation of Prison Break. This is one of my fave TV show and of course I don’t want to miss it.

What special days did I celebrate and how?
January 16 was Roland’s birthday and we just had a simple family getaway at HongKong Disneyland however we went there in the afternoon already. We had lunch at Jollibee :D and dinner at Fat Angelos.

What gifts did I give and/or receive?
I was planning to buy a gift for hubby’s birthday but Migs and I ended up doing a birthday card for him. Simple yet full of love… ;)

What illnesses or health concerns did I have?
Thankfully no serious illness in the family, however we had 3 times visit to the doctor this month due to Migs’ bad cough and colds.

What fun things did I do with my friends and/or family?
Last January 26, we had a farewell party to one of hubby’s officemate. It’s a potluck dinner and hubby cooked a “Pansit Bihon” as our share. It’s just a small gathering of friends but we had fun chatting and exchanging stories.

What new foods, recipes or restaurants did I try this month?
I baked for the first time Lengua de Gato. Miguel just love it and he called it “mommy’s cookies”. I shared the recipe here.

What special or unusual purchases did I make?
I considered unusual purchases was Migs’ chinese clothes. Of course, we don’t buy this very often and he wore it during their chinese culture week activity in school. It’s not expensive though. Here one photo of him wearing the clothes:

What were this month’s disappointments?
Family wise, I don’t think we have but for my business, I’m a bit disappointed with my PR, hehe… though thankfully I can still receive tasks and earn a little. Also, losing my creative mojo was not good at all as it took me forever to finish a layout, LOL!

What were my accomplishments this month?
For myself: I’m happy that I was able to stick on what’s on my list and not do other unimportant things. :) Being me as a procrastinator, I consider this accomplishment since I’m trying to get away from that “not so good” habit, hehe…

Another thing was the presentation I made on Migs’ class as part of their multi-culture week (3rd week of Jan). I forgot to blog about it, anyhow here’s a summary of what happened: I presented on Migs’ class few cultures that Filipinos have. I explained to them the symbols on the Philippine flag. I wore a costume and showed it to them. Then the challenging part was to teach them basic steps of the “Bamboo dance” or the “Tinikling”. It was a challenge to me ‘coz I haven’t done this before and yet here I am going to teach the little kiddos, LOL! But I have SO much fun with them, so much that I totally forgot to take photos even a single one, … Good thing, the teacher took a video and few photos but she never give me a copy yet. I already asked her and hopefully I could get them soon. What’s touching was the part when all the kids hugged me, (the last part) and most of them called me “Miguels’ mommy” :) and some called “mommy” , LOL! For few minutes in my life I have a lot of kids around me, :D I really had a blast… and it was truly a memorable experience…

More accomplishments- at home: I was able to organize things in our house, take away messy things, and was able to sort out clothes in the cabinets, too. Scrapping wise, I haven’t done my usual 12×12 layouts but was able to finish 2 hybrid projects: my niece 2008 calendar and my explosion box: highlights of our 2007. I also started my photo-a-day shots but I missed 3 photos for January, ugh!

Anything else noteworthy to record?

* We had 2 consecutive days hot pot this month, hehe. We just love it.

* January 11, Migs’ Games day at Happy Valley Football Club.
Games day

It doesn’t look like a winter season that day as we do have a very sunny weather. So if you can see the photos of Migs here, he took off his jacket and sweatshirt… :)

* Migs first assessment report for first term. He got positive remarks and we’re happy considering this is his first time going to school. Though there are areas that needs more practice but generally he’s doing very well. :D I’m such a proud mommy!

* Chinese culture week in Migs’ school. In celebration of the coming Lunar New Year, they had this activity in school for kids’ awareness of the Chinese culture and learn few things about the preparations. They were encouraged to wear Chinese clothes.

Whew! That’s a long post, hehe… but worth noting. I’m planning to do some layouts for this one, hopefully I have the mojo… ;)

That’s it. Thanks for reading… and if you do round-ups too, just leave a link here. ;)
