Mini Network at home

I’ve mentioned a week ago hubby was doing changes on our computer setup. It’s all done now and what can I say it’s amazing ;) … I’m such a lucky girl to have a network guy with me, LOL! Ok so what it’s all about. It’s like we have a mini network here at home. Our old pc has been converted to be our database server. We bought a new 500GB hard disk in addition to our existing 250GB & the old 80GB. That’s all placed in our old CPU. You may ask why we need that big HD? One reason is to restore our precious pictures. We do backups in DVDs but according to hubby it may take for 2yrs only and files might be damaged and I don’t want it to happen. So we restored all our photos especially Mig’s baby pictures in our HD. I plan to print some of them too one at a time so we can have a hard copy as well… Then yes hubby allowed me to use the 250GB for all my stash… WOW! A big disk for me, hahaha!

Ok, I also mentioned we have a new Mac in the house ;) , yes that’s the MAC mini… (I love this thing, you can see the photo below)… that’s the one connected with our old monitor. In other words we don’t have windows running in our computer now, it’s all MAC OS X Leopard. We have upgraded the macbook as well and I tell you this OS is soooo cool! I’m still exploring all the wonderful features of it but one thing I can say, I can view my stash so easily with its cover flow feature…. (talk about that on a separate post… ) Ok then, we had a new computer table and we set it up on Miguel’s room, that’s where the Mac mini place and our server. Now I don’t need to always put the cable of the EHD because I can easily connect it with our server. Hubby configured it that way. Really cool! Macbook still place in our room and he has his own place there. So I don’t worry what computer to use now because I can always access my files by connecting to our “mini” server. I guess the only thing not available in our current setup is the WiFi hotspot, :) …I suggest having a mobile router and set-up a WiFi hotspot at home. At least that way we always have an Internet access anywhere even to those areas where DSL or cable service is unavailable.

Well, overall it’s pretty good! I love everything that hubby does. Maybe in the future, we can start our own hosting business, hahaha…

Here’s a not-so-good shot I took just to show you …
