Learn Cantonese
At this point in time I have no choice but join my son learn Cantonese. I know it will be a little difficult for me as it is not like learning a new gadget or an AED electronic device but this is something I need to learn by heart.
When my son started schooling 2 years ago, Chinese and Mandarin were part of their subjects. During his nursery days, it’s more of singing rhymes in Chinese and Mandarin. They have writing then but not as detailed when he was in Kinder 2 up to this time. And now he’s in Kinder 3, they’re writing Chinese character in sentences and have homework every week. We thought of hiring a Chinese tutor but we might do it later or when he’s in primary already. That’s why I’m trying to learn some Chinese strokes and to speak as well. Oh yes we have books, dictionaries, CD and the Internet to help us, LOL! Also we let our son watch his Playhouse Disney in Cantonese as a way of learning the language too.
It’s difficult but slowly we’re trying to catch up. I think that’s the challenge when you’re staying in country with different lingo… but on positive note it’s a bonus for us especially to our son…
